What We Do

For more than 80 years, United Way has helped millions of deserving people and has been the charitable partner for hundreds of Bay Area agencies, businesses and civic organizations. During nearly nine decades of service, United Way has invested millions of dollars that directly and indirectly touch nearly man, woman and child in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties.

The New United Way is focusing on a community impact agenda that works to enhance the building blocks for a good life. The framework for this agenda are the Four Cornerstones of Caring:

Caring to Help Children & Youth Achieve Their Potential

Goal: cut in half the number of young people who dropout of high school.

Caring to Assist Individuals & Families to Achieve Financial Stability

Goal: cut in half the number of lower-income families that lack financial stability

Caring to Create Vibrant Neighborhoods

Goal: increase by one third the number of youths and adults who are healthy and avoid risky behaviors

Caring to Support a Safety Net of Services

Goal: ensure emergency services to assist individuals and families in crisis.

United Way leadership both facilitates and coordinates with regional agencies to fund programs that support these four areas of impact. United Way creates and manages community programs such as Summer Care Child Care Initiative, the Sulphur Springs Resource Center, the Children’s Book Drive, the Prosperity Campaign of Hillsborough County, HandsOn Tampa Bay Volunteer Services and Stop Hometown Hunger. These programs provide direct and significant community impact to the region.

United Way’s diverse leadership team leverages your donor dollars with grants and other corporate and civic contributions to multiply your gift many times over. Our leaders convene partnership opportunities to bring more to the table: more dollars, more partners and more programs. With more than 900 Tampa Bay companies representing more than 70,000 employees, United Way’s workplace campaign mobilizes the largest group of individual donors in the Bay Area. This massive, coordinated regional effort is unparalleled in size and scope.
